Our Awesome-mazing Wedding At Gariep Forever Resorts

The wedding preparations

On the 16th of December the two families met to begin the official relationship building. The same weekend I booked myself at a guesthouse and I remained behind so we could view our options for a wedding venue.

We headed to the Gariep Dam were you find two beautiful wedding venues, our first option was De Stijl Hotel which was unfortunately already booked for the date we had in mind for our wedding date. We then went and viewed the Gariep Forever Resort; we fell in love with it. Both the venues were quite impressive, De Stijl was quite breath taking in its own way and had its own eye catching features but I must say we felt content when we got one of the most nature capturing / romantic movie garden wedding scenery with a view of the dam and boats at the Gariep Forever Hotel.

We made our decision after a lot of deliberation and we booked for the 22nd of April 2014 and Gariep Forever Resort was our choice to host our awesome-mazing union day.

We had to come up with the theme for our wedding and I must say this was a task on its own, you know how women can be on such matters. So our final decision was to have a Vintage glamour theme with gold, peach and mint as the main colours of the day.

Our next project was to get pictures for our Save the date and website, we chose Fourways Mall for the Save the date, the rest were captured at the Zoo and some at the Union Buildings. We compiled our guest list and released the Save the Dates while working on the wedding invitation website, the website was released soon after that which detailed the journey that led to the 22nd of April 2014..

We did not hire any wedding planner, we did everything by ourselves and yes that came with a lot of driving up and down almost every weekend doing shopping.

Tshukudu designed the dresses for the bridesmaids and the maid of honor, I also had a secret project going on behind the scenes, yeah it works out perfect to throw in some suprises here and there, we had to buy dresses and accessories for the flower girls.

The bride’s dress was hired from Your day and I could not be part of the project and had to wait till the big day to see it, I did assist with choosing the shoes and accessories though.

When we were shopping around we found what we were looking for and there was no need to go to a designer. I got my shirt at Twill; the shoes were a soft leather from Kurt Geiger. The pocket square and the bow tie’s came with the suits. I wore a Kurt Geiger cologne.

I think this is one item where we spent most of our time searching for and eventually we got what we liked and the adventure was nicely concluded.

The night before the big day –

We had to go to the wedding venue for food tasting and check that the décor was what we had requested. This took up a lot of time than we had anticipated and we ended up leaving the venue very late in the evening to go sort out a couple of things like the dance practise together with the bridesmaids and this meant that we slept very late but it was lots of fun I must say.

On the same day we had to meet with the pastor to discuss a few things with regards to the wedding and ofcourse complete some documents to make our union official. We had to juggle this in-between the food tasting and checking the hall to see that the décor was in order. I also had to give the pastor the little surprise I had for my wife to congratulate us after the whole wedding ceremony.

We also had to see to it that everyone who was travelling that day had arrived safe.

The Big day

My wife was going to leave to the wedding venue from her granny’s house; the photographer and the videographer had to drive to Burgersdorp to go capture some moments while she was still getting ready. From there everyone who was in Burgersdorp had to drive to the wedding venue; we collected the vintage Cadillac car that we had hired for the day and waited by the Gariep bridge taking pictures, there was quite a bit of a delay getting everybody inside the venue location as a result the wedding started a bit later than the actual time. I think we were running late by one hour.

Once everyone was settled in I was told to wait for the bride, just in time before I started panicking she arrived. She walked down the aisle with her uncle. After a short sermon we said our vows and the union was officiated in front of God and the congregation, this was sealed with us taking Holy Communion and being prayed for by men of God who had attended our wedding. We had a selected music play list playing on the background while the union was being officiated, my favourite being Phil Collins, in the air tonight and this played at the right moment while we were putting on our rings. I will never leave your side by Daniel Bedingfield played just as we walked out to go take some pictures.

Our guests had a photo-booth to keep them busy till we came back, we also had a cocktail lunch that was prepared for them to ensure that no one was going to complain about hunger.

Wedding reception

The official ceremony was over and we were now ready to party a storm, all the anxiety was over and you could tell by the looks on our faces that we were so relaxed and ready to get down and have fun.

Special highlights of the afternoon/evening have to be the moment we took our first dance together and were joined by other couples. The part of taking the gutter out of her leg was also quite exciting. There was plenty of food, fun and laughter. We had prepared our own speeches and to help me remember everything I wanted to say I had another music playlist which helped me tell the story about our relationship journey which eventually led to the altar.

The night was concluded when we personally handing out thank you gifts to our guests; I think this added a personal touch to the entire evening.
